Donna is our instructor in Knoxville TN

Donna began studying music from a very early age, coming from a family of musicians. She started the flute in junior high, participating in the school’s orchestra all the way through graduating high school. After high school, Donna continued to perform in choirs, bands and orchestras, and as a soloist on flute or vocals since the early 1960’s. She graduated with an Associates of Arts degree for music from Porterville College in 1985 and began teaching flute and piano soon after. Donna continues to perform locally in her church’s orchestra. She offers classical, gospel, light jazz, and pop styles.

Interview with our new instructor Makala!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvWy2gS4ZC4I’m Makala, and I teach beginner to advanced French horn, beginner piano, and beginner voice, songwriting, music theory, and conducting. I have been teaching since 2018.
I come from a musical family, and have listened to film music by John Williams, James Horner, and several other composers since I was 8 years old. My siblings and the emotion and energy of the music I listened to led me to join band in 6th grade.
I do not currently perform or record with any ensemble, but I did perform in the Tennessee Mid-State bands for three years and the Sumner County All-County band, both of  which recorded performances. I also played in the 2015 WKU Prism concert with the Horn ensemble, which showcases small group performances with audiovisuals. I have also composed short instrumental works and still work in composition on my own time.
My primary practice tip is to play for yourself. Do not focus on pleasing others all the time. Music, at its core, is something to be enjoyed and should never feel like a burden. By playing to express yourself, you assign more meaning to your music and are able to achieve goals in music with fewer hindrances that come with practicing to please others, such as nervousness and insecurity.
I am currently listening to The Ludlows theme by James Horner from Legends of the Fall.

Interview with our new instructor TJ!

I’m T.J. and I teach guitar and bass, and have been teaching for 6 years! I also do music production and recording!

I knew I wanted to be a musician the day I learned my first song with my first guitar teacher, Bob. It was from a basic music book and once I could play it, it was the greatest feeling and I knew that this would be what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I have an album out! Refer to my website https://tmendillo.wixsite.com/tjmendillo, to download it if you’d like!

Best practice tip? If you get stressed out or lose hope while practicing, just take a breath and a small break. There’s no reason to get discouraged. Don’t be impatient with your instrument. It takes time and as long as you put in the time you will improve.

What are you listening to TJ? Recently I’ve been listening to “Massive Attack”, they are a British rock/electronic group and their music is incredible!
