Meet Kathi! Our founder and a fabulous music instructor!

Kathi grew up in a musical family, with a mother who is a classically trained musician, and a father who plays the upright jazz bass by ear, so she had the best of both worlds-training and a good ear for improv. Growing up, Kathi regularly performed as soloist, as well as with her family, and knew early on that music was going to be her life! After high school, she studied for 2 years at Point Loma College for piano performance, than after a few years, transferred to The San Francisco Conservatory of Music in San Francisco, CA for another 2 years, studying under Julliard graduate, Mac McCray. Between colleges, Kathi performed, toured and recorded in a contemporary Christian band as keyboardist and background vocalist. While at the conservatory, Kathi started teaching private piano and voice lessons and found that she really enjoyed it. In 1989, she found herself with so many students, she decided to hire some of her advanced adult students to teach her overflow, and thus Melody Music Studios was started.

As Melody Music Studios began to grow, she decided to expand to all instruments and voice, and in 2001 opened multiple cities across the country. Kathi has a love for music, and believes that, while learning an instrument or voice should be challenging, it should also be fun and positive for the student as he/she begin their own personal musical journey.

Take lessons with Amanda!

Amanda graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor in Music in 1999, than continued there to receive a Masters in Music in 2003. She grew up in a musical family, and began studying piano as a child under her mother who is a music teacher. Amanda has played piano since the early 1980’s, and guitar since the last 1990’s. Amanda is currently a singer and composer for the praise and worship music at her church and performs locally for special events. Amanda has been teaching since 1999 privately, including coaching musicians for auditions and a musical career, as well as at a university. Her styles include classical/opera, Broadway, country, gospel Contemporary Christian, and sacred. Amanda believes in a healthy vocal production, good dictation, lyrical interpretation, and performance techniques.

I’ll be performing a solo show at Brooklyn’s favorite art, music and spiritual venue Park Church Co-op located on 129 Russell Street in Greenpoint. To quote composer Hildegard Von Bingen, “There is the music of Heaven in all things”. That idea rings true more than ever in Park Church Co-op’s high vaulted ceilings, reverberant acoustics and hazy lights. I’ll be opening on electric violin and voice for solo artist Bones of J.R. Jones. To close the show I’ll be providing backing music on violin and vocals for songwriter Rob Ward’s very own Food Will Win the War.
