Meet our drum instructor Lance

Lance grew up in a musical family, and began his love for drumming at the tender age of three on pots and pans, moving on to a set of drums at the age of five. He played drums and percussion throughout elementary, middle and high school, including symphonic and hand percussion (including mallets) in concert/symphonic band and drum set and hand percussion in jazz band. In high school, he performed in the marching band and winter percussion ensembles, and in 2001, he played the drum set in the six time world champion Blue Knights Winter Percussion Ensemble. Lance began gigging in punk and jazz bands from 2001-2003, and after high school, he took some time to travel to different parts of the world and play music with local musicians in London, Amsterdam, Rome, Prague and Tanzania. He then went to college and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Performance from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City in 2008, and began to focus on jazz drum, hand percussion, African drumming, Brazilian drumming, piano, film scoring, and took courses in music theory and recording engineering/software. After college, he continued to perform with top musicians in NYC in famous venues and radio, as well as recording sessions with well known musicians. As an educator, Lance taught for a high school in the Drumline/Percussion Ensemble from 2009-2010 and currently mentors young musicians at a local conservatory in their jazz ensembles. He is also a regular performer/instructor in their educational outreach clinics. Lance has been teaching private lessons since 2008 and offers all styles for both drumming/percussion and piano, including music theory, ear training, and composition.
